John Barnett DTBM 70 Weeks In Daniel 9 Video Review

This 70th Week Of Daniel 9 Decoded post features a video from Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries DTBM, called GOD SAYS 70 WEEKS SUM UP EVERYTHING FROM NOW TO THE END OF HUMAN HISTORY IN DANIEL 9.

Video description: God Sees ONLY Four World Empires in human history until the world ends. First, in Daniel 2 & 9 God gives an overview of Human History from a human perspective, with all of the outward beauty and accomplishments: Daniel 9:24—GOD’S CLEAR PLAN: is revealed in this “70 Weeks” prophecy. The word for a seven-day-week is in Daniel 10:2-3, but this word in Daniel 9:24,25, 26, and 27 is a different Hebrew word that means a group of seven (heptad).

Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries says that Daniel 9:1-23 is a beautiful adoration and confession.

I disagree that it’s a beautiful prayer as it proclaims that the curse of Moses upon the Jews if they don’t obey the Heavenly Father.

The answer to His prayer in Daniel 9:26 points to Jerusalem and the temple being destroyed, because the unbelieving Jews delivered Messiah up to be ‘cut off’ killed by the violent death of crucifixion. That is not a beautiful message!

Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries says that sevens and groups of seven are big in Scripture. He points to seventy groups of seven for 490 years.

The 490-year prophecy in Daniel 9 is fulfilled during ten 49-year Jubilee cycles.

The first year was a year of Jubilee, which pointed to the Jews being released and empowered to rebuild Jerusalem. After the ten 49-year Jubilee cycles were fulfilled, the Gospel was also proclaimed to the Gentiles, so it represent the Gentiles being set free.

So it make no sense to insert a 2000-year time gap in between the 69th and 70th week.

The 70th week was fulfilled on time, after the 69th week. Messiah appeared after the 69-weeks were fulfilled and was anointed during His baptism. During His three-year ministry, He proclaimed the Gospel to the House of Israel.

Then in the middle of the seven years of the 70th week, Messiah was delivered up to be crucified for our sins. Then the Gospel was proclaimed by the disciples to the Jews during the last 3 1/2 years of the 70th week.

Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries points to the command of Cyrus to start the timeline.

The decree of Cyrus took place too early for it to be the command that starts the 70-week prophecy, as it places Messiah’s appearance to die for our sins way too early.

Persian king Artaxerxes issued his decree in 457 BC, which places the 70th week of Daniel as taking place from 27-34 AD. This fits in with Messiah dying in the middle of the seven years, in 31 AD.

Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries says that Daniel 9-25 says that there are 69 weeks until Messiah, and that Daniel 9-26 says that Messiah appears after sixty-two weeks.

This means that it’s proclaiming that Messiah appears after 69 weeks are fulfilled. And what is after 69 weeks? The 70th week!

Then it proclaims that Messiah’s death takes place in the middle of the seven years of the 70th week, as His one-time sacrifice for sin ended the need for temple animal sacrifices. This was affirmed when the Heavenly Father tore the temple curtain in two.

The covenant in Daniel 9:27 need to be confirmed, which means that it already existed. It’s pointing to the Everlasting Covenant which Daniel referred to in Daniel 9:4.

Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries says that the people of the prince which is the come, is the Romans.

In Daniel 9:24, we are told that the people are the Jews.

Messiah is the Prince of the people, as He is of the tribe of Judah. Messiah is the prince to come, as the prophecy is about His coming after 69 weeks are fulfilled.

The people of the prince, the Jews, caused the temple and city to be destroyed, as it was their punishment for rejecting the Father’s Son and delivering Him up to be killed.

Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries says that the abomination of desolation takes place in the temple.

It doesn’t say that it takes place in the temple!

It says that the abomination of desolation takes place where it should not be. It’s pointing to the the army of Cestius surrounding Jerusalem in November 66 AD, to take it captive. The army overcame the two outer city walls and surrounded the inner part of the city where the temple was located, standing where they should not be.

It’s amazing to me that teachers like Dr. John Barnett completely ignore the definition of the abomination of desolation that is provided in Luke 21:20-21,  And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.

Read Abomination of Desolation

Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries says that those who are in Judea should flee

The context of the passage is about people who lived in Judea in the first century.

They had rooftop terraces which were connected to a walkway that led to the outer gate of the city. They are told to not go down into the house, pointing to them escaping via the terrace walkway. That doesn’t apply to us today.

They are told to pray that it doesn’t happen on the Sabbath? Why? Because the Jewish leaders locked the city gates on the Sabbath, so that people cannot leave. That doesn’t apply to us today.

Judea stopped existing in 132 AD, as the Romans renamed the area Syria Palaestina.

It applied to people who lived in Judea before the Jewish-Roman War of 66-70 AD, so that they could escape the time of trouble for the unbelieving Jewish nation; when 1.1 million Jews died in and around Jerusalem from famine, pestilence, infighting, suicide, evisceration, crucifixion and by the Roman sword.

The believing Jews fled to the mountains of Pella, which are northeast of Jerusalem, just like Messiah told them.

Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries teaches a false, futuristic fulfillment of the 70th week of Daniel 9, the Olivet Discourse and the prophecies in Revelation.

The 70th week of Daniel 9 is about Messiah’s ministry and His blood sacrifice as the Spotless Lamb to atone for our sins. It has nothing to do with the antichrist or the end times.

The Olivet Discourse foretold the events that would lead to the desolation of Jerusalem, the second temple and the Jewish nation; as punishment for the Jewish leaders continuing in rebellion against the Heavenly Father and for delivering His Son up to be killed. It has nothing to do with the antichrist or the end times.

Most of the prophecies in Revelation have been fulfilled in exacting detail during the last 1,900 years. It describes the historical narrative of the Satan-empowered leaders of the Roman beast kingdom (pagan Emperors > antichrist beast Popes > false prophet Jesuit Superior Generals) fighting against Messiah and His saints.

The explanations of Dr. John Barnett of Discover the Book Ministries serve to deflect blame away from the enemy in Rome, and to mislead the end-times saints so that they’re not prepared for how the end-times will play out, and don’t know the context of Messiah’s return.
