The fulfillment of the 70th week of Daniel 9 is fairly straight-forward

Understanding the seven years of the 70th week of Daniel is very important, because of the truth of its fulfillment and the deceptions based on it.

The 70th week of Daniel 9 is the only prophecy that foretold when Messiah would start His ministry and die for our sins.  The context of Daniel 9 is that the Jews are at the end of their 70-year captivity, and Daniel is inquiring about what will happen to them.  Daniel is not seeking information about the end times or the antichrist, just about the destiny of the Jewish nation.  Daniel 9:24-27 gives the answer.

Seventy Shemitah cycles are determined for the Jewish people. The prophecy is pointing to seventy 7-year Shemitah cycles, which is ten 49-year Jubilee cycles. The first seven weeks of the prophecy point to seven 7-year Shemitah cycles, which is one Jubilee cycle of 49 years.

The commands from Cyrus and Darius were about the rebuilding the temple, not the city.

The timeline started with a command from Persian King Artaxerxes in 457 BC, so the 70th week occurred from 27-34 AD, which is the time frame in which we know Messiah carried out His ministry and died for our sins. This is confirmed by the book of 1 Esdras, which is an extension of the book of Ezra. And it’s validated, as a year of Jubilee took place in 457 BC, when the captive Jews were set free, confirming the starting year.

The command from King Artaxerxes in 445/444 BC was to restart the rebuilding of Jerusalem, as it had been stopped, which is why Nehemiah was so sad; so it’s not the correct decree.

Daniel 9:24 defines six things to be fulfilled during the 490 years.  The Jews cannot fulfill them.  Our Messiah did with His blood atonement that paid for transgressions and reconciled the Jews, and us, with the Father. Isaiah 53 foretold Messiah being wounded for our transgressions, our iniquities, when He was ‘cut off.

In Daniel 9:25-27, you see how the 70-weeks are structured. It started with 7-weeks (one Jubilee cycle) during which the Jews were empowered to rebuild Jerusalem. Then 62 weeks of mostly silence from the prophets. And then the pinnacle of the prophecy, the last 7-years of the 70th week. Daniel 9:25 points to Messiah the Prince appearing after 69 weeks. 9:26 points to Him dying after the 69 weeks, meaning in the 70th week. His multi-year ministry took place in the 70th week, starting with His Isaiah declaration and anointing at His baptism.

The ‘people of the prince’ are the Jews, who are declared in Daniel 9:24 as ‘thy people.Messiah the Prince is of the tribe of Judah, so the Jews are ‘the people of the prince.’

The Jews caused Jerusalem and the temple to be destroyed because they continued in their rebellion against the Heavenly Father and they rejected His Son and delivered Him up to be killed, so it was their punishment.

The Jews caused Jerusalem and the temple to be destroyed because they attacked the army of Cestius, killing thousands of soldiers, which incited the ire of the Roman Emperor who sent three legions of soldiers to Jerusalem to capture the Jews.

The Jews caused Jerusalem and the temple to be destroyed because they caused the peaceable Titus, who tried to get them to surrender, to order the desolation after being horrified by the Jews causing hundreds of thousands of their own people to die.

Daniel 9:25-26 points to Messiah the Prince, so the ‘he’ in Daniel 9:27 is still Messiah, who came to ratify the everlasting covenant in the middle of the 70th week.  The word ‘prince’ is the same Hebrew word, nagiyd. It makes no sense for the word prince to point to two different people. Many Jews believed in Messiah the Prince, 3,000 on Pentecost and more were added daily. Messiah’s Ekklesia was built on a foundation of Jews.

The 70th week of Daniel points to Messiah’s multiyear ministry, not just His death.

People who believe that the 70th week of Daniel 9 is yet to be fulfilled, proclaim that four days after the 69th week was fulfilled, Messiah entered Jerusalem to be ‘cut off,’ killed, fulfilling Daniel 9:26.

But the prophecy is not just pointing to Messiah coming to die, but to His multiyear ministry in which He said, ‘repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.’

It started when He was baptized by John, when the Spirit descended on Him, and the Father proclaimed ‘This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.’

Then He went into the synagogue, read the Isaiah passage and proclaimed that it was fulfilled in Him. His many miracles served to validate His authority.

On Passover, at the beginning of His ministry, He cleansed the temple, driving out the money-changers. Three years later He repeated this temple cleansing before He died as the Spotless Lamb on Passover.

Messiah confirmed the everlasting covenant of Daniel 9:4. Daniel 9:27 says that he ‘confirms’ the covenant, which means that the covenant already existed. We only have to look back to Daniel 9:4 to see that Daniel is pleading with the Heavenly Father to remember His covenant of mercy to those who love Him.

“And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments.”

Messiah came to confirm the everlasting covenant that was made to Father Abraham, which needed to be ratified by the blood of Messiah, the Spotless Lamb.

Romans 15:8 says, “Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers.“

Galatians 3:17 says, “And this I say, that the law, which was four hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect.”

Hebrews 13:20 says, “Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant.

Daniel 9:27 points to the timing of Messiah’s death, in the middle of the 7-years.  The word ‘for’ in Daniel 9:27 is added by the translators, making it seem to point to a 7-year covenant. It’s simply pointing to the last week of seven years.

Messiah’s death on the cross caused the need for temple animal sacrifices to cease, as He is the one-time atonement for sin. The Father validated this when He tore the temple curtain in two, though the rebellious Jewish leaders continued sacrifices until their judgment in 70 AD.

The deception is that the 70th week of Daniel hasn’t been fulfilled yet.

We’ve been told that it is about an end-times antichrist who makes a 7-year peace agreement with Israel, which starts a 7-year tribulation period.

The Jesuits created this deception in the 16th century to deflect blame away from the Popes of Rome, as the Protestant Reformers had rightly identified them as the Little Horn of Daniel, Son of Perdition of 2 Thessalonians 2, and antichrist beast of Revelation 13.

They had Jesuit Priest Francisco Ribera, a brilliant man with a doctorate in theology, write a 500 page commentary with an opposing view, where he manipulated prophecies in the books of Daniel and Revelation, to create the narrative of a one-man antichrist in an end-time 7-year tribulation. This idea, called Futurism, was quickly adopted as the Roman Catholic Church’s official position on the Antichrist.

The true Church effectively rejected these futuristic concepts until the 19th century, when the Jesuits caused several people to promote these concepts; including Pastor Edward Irving, John Nelson Darby and Cyrus Ingerson Scofield, which led to these deceptions being taught at Dallas Theological Seminary, where the leaven of the Jesuits deceptions have spread around the world.

The historical witness of the many persecuted believers and theologians of the past have been pushed aside, and futurism is now taught by most Pastors.

The 70th Week Of Daniel 9 Decoded

I understand that this explanation of the 70th week of Daniel may be new to you, so I want to step back and take a child-like, logical view of the prophecy.

Simply ask yourself:

How long does it take the Father to fulfill His own 70 week prophecy? The obvious and correct answer is 70 weeks.  If a 70 week prophecy is given and it is not fulfilled in 70 consecutive weeks, then the prophecy is not valid.

What week follows the 69th week? The obvious answer is the 70th week, but the enemy would have you believe that there is a 1,990+ year time gap between the 69th and 70th week, even though there is no such time gap defined in Daniel 9.

Daniel 9:25 mentions the arrival of the promised Messiah, and then Daniel 9:27 mentions a ‘covenant‘. Whose covenant do you suppose that it is referring to? Isn’t it logical to assume that it is Messiah’s covenant, as the reason that He came was to die to ratify the everlasting covenant with His blood as the Passover Lamb?

The text even proclaims that He was ‘cut off‘, meaning that He was killed, in the middle of the seven years, which matches Isaiah’s prophecy about the promised Messiah, in Isaiah 53:8, “He was taken from prison and from judgment. And as for His generation, who considered that He shall be cut off from the land of the living? For the transgression of My people He was stricken.

The consequences of the 70 Weeks of Daniel deception are grand!

The enemy’s end times deception is based on the concept of a futuristic 70th week of Daniel. It causes people to look for an end times one-man Antichrist, instead of identifying the office of the papacy as the beast of Revelation, the Little Horn of Daniel and the Son of Perdition.

This is the very reason that the end times 7 year tribulation deception was created by the Roman Catholic Church. They were being accused by the Protestant Reformers of being the Antichrist system who persecuted the saints. The Protestant Reformers told people to ‘come out of her‘, which caused millions of people to leave the Roman Catholic Church and be saved by the pure Gospel of Messiah.

The enemy has programmed our minds to view the 70th week of Daniel as futuristic. But when you understand that the 70th week of Daniel has been fulfilled, and that it’s not an end-times 7-year tribulation period; most of the enemy’s deceptions about prophecy fulfillment crumble to the ground.

The Revelation Timeline Decoded Bible study series gives you the proof that the Popes of Rome are the beast of Revelation, the Little Horn of Daniel and the Son of Perdition.

  1. The “two” witnesses are “killed” by the beast from the abyss (the United Nations world government) after 3.5 years (Rev. 11:7). Then they are revived after 3.5 “days” (3.5 years/half of the “week”) (Rev. 11:11). That’s seven years total. The number two in Scripture symbolizes that a message is true. The “two” witnesses are an “anointed one” with an important and verifiable message who will be cut off at the half of the “week” by what some refer to as an “antichrist” (a communist-style world government). The seventieth week has a modern-day parallel, an antitype. At the same time that the two witnesses are killed the disgusting thing that causes desolation (to God’s people) is set up, as described at Daniel 9:27b, Matthew 24:15, and Revelation 13:5-7 etc. It seems that the coronavirus is the means that the beast from the abyss will rise to power (Anglo-America, the ascendant head of the seven-headed wild beast is now experiencing a death-stroke that it will recover from and then give authority to the United Nations, the “image of the beast”).

    • You know the futuristic explanation well! But it’s a deception from the enemy. There is no futuristic 70th week of Daniel. The antichrist Popes reigned in power for 1,260 years, from 538-1798 A.D. The Two Witnesses are the Scriptures and the Saints, both of which testify against the Popes and expose them as the son of perdition and the antichrist beast, who leads the harlot church of Rome.

I pray that you read through the prophecy fulfillment explanations, because what you’re believing is a deception from the enemy.

      • The “two” witnesses are not the Scriptures and the saints as it is impossible for those things to “prophesy in sackcloth” or be “killed” and revived. The two witnesses do a work like that of Moses and Elijah (deliverance and purifying – vs 5,6). They also do a work like Joshua and Zerubbabel (healing and rebuilding – v4). The healing and rebuilding work will take place after God’s people are desolated for 3.5 years. I know what i am talking about because i AM that anointed one who is currently prophesying in sackcloth against God’s people, since i know what is about to come upon them during the second half of the week when the holy city is trampled underfoot (Rev. 11:2).

The harlot is the ancient “mystery” schools who have dominated 6 world empires and continue to dominate the 7th (Anglo-America) (Rev. 17:9). She rides the scarlet-cloloured image of the beast (United Nations) because she set it up and she will soon gain full control of it as a tyrannical world government, “at the half of the week” when it causes “sacrifice and gift offering to cease.” Freemasonry is the world’s oldest and most powerful secret (“mystery”) religion. Masons literally built seven world empires. They openly boast of this in their books, of which i have many. Yes, there will be a one world religion under them because THEY are the whore of Babylon. Yes, all other religion will be outlawed. All of it!

    • On that article, Dr. David R. Reagan has the timing of the prophecy correct, how is he missing the 70th week?

He states, The time span I am proposing from 457 B.C. to 27 A.D. is also supported by another amazing piece of evidence.

That’s 483 years, the time of the 69 weeks.

Then he says, Further evidence that this date is correct is the fact that it would place the end of Jesus’ 3 1/2 year ministry in the spring of 31 A.D. And that happens to be the most likely year of the crucifixion.

So he’s saying that Messiah was killed 3 1/2 years after the 69th week ended (in the middle of the 70th week), which is correct.

Then somehow he says, One puzzle remains about Daniel’s prophecy. What about the 70th week? Is it past or future? I believe there is no doubt whatsoever that it is future.

He just gave the timeline for the 69 weeks to be fulfilled, from 457 BC to 27 AD. He just said that Messiah died in 31 AD, 3 1/2 years after the 69th week ended.

Daniel 9:26 says that Messiah will be ‘cut off’ killed AFTER the 69th week, meaning in the 70th week. And then Daniel 9:27 gives us the timing of His death, in the middle of the week, which ended the need for temple animal sacrifices.

How in the world does he not see that Messiah’s ministry took place in the 70th week? He just declared as much!

      Amazing!!!

      • You know I agree that it is Dr. David Reagan clearly gets the timeline right up until the “cutting off” and crucifiction of our Lord. Perhaps he doesn’t have clarity on the fulfillment of the second half of the 7 year period. There is a spiritual dilusionment that often comes over people that distorts their thinking when they sit under false teaching for years. Maybe he just can’t connect the dots that there is no futuristic events for the nation of Israe, being made desolate in 70 AD. The church then was birth in a day at the Day of Pentecost, True Spiritual Israel!

  2. End of Messiah (69 weeks):
26a “And after the 62 weeks, Mes·siʹah will be cut off, with nothing for himself.”

Leader who is to come (1 week):
26b “And the people of a leader who is coming will destroy the city and the holy place. And its end will be by the flood. And until the end there will be war; what is decided upon is desolations.”

    Leader who is to come:
27a “And he will keep the covenant in force for the many for one week; and at the half of the week, he will cause sacrifice and gift offering to cease.”

    Leader who is to come:
27b “And on the wing of disgusting things there will be the one causing desolation; and until an extermination, what was decided on will be poured out also on the one lying desolate.”

    Or

    End of Messiah (69.5 weeks):
26a “And after the 62 weeks (in the middle of the seventieth week), Mes·siʹah will be cut off, with nothing for himself.”

Leader who is to come (1 week):
26b “And the people of a leader who is coming will destroy the city and the holy place. And its end will be by the flood. And until the end there will be war; what is decided upon is desolations.”

Back to the Messiah who was put to death:
27a “And he will keep the covenant in force for the many for one week; and at the half of the week, he will cause sacrifice and gift offering to cease.”

    Leader who is to come:

27b “And on the wing of disgusting things there will be the one causing desolation; and until an extermination, what was decided on will be poured out also on the one lying desolate.”

    Which one is it?

    • The second explanation fits the narrative. It’s a way of writing, where you split up the information in consecutive paragraphs, to convey two messages.
In this case, one part is telling us when Messiah will carry out His ministry and be killed. And the other part tells us that the temple and city will be desolated, because of the Jews abominations, in that they rejected Messiah and delivered Him up to be killed.

If you combine the narrative; it reads as:
And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease.

And the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Verse 25 tells us that 69 weeks pass until Messiah the Prince, meaning He will appear in the 70th week. Verse 26 tells us that Messiah will be cut off, killed, after the 69 weeks, meaning in the 70th week. Verse 27 give us the timing of His death, in the middle of the 70th week, when He ratified the everlasting covenant with His blood as the Passover Lamb, which ended the need for temple sacrifices.

      • David and Paddy, I appreciated this dialog. Admittedly Paddy raises similar questions as what I have had (however, claiming to be the anointed prophet in sackcloth is a red flag that you are likely misguided in some ways, but I won’t cast away your perspective just because you are struggling in that regards, I give you no judgement and hope that your motives are in the right place….He alone will judge). However, David, your math adds up really well and I appreciate the logic. Also, I’ve never considered seeing the verses of Daniel 9 be “split” and recombined e.g. 26a27a and 26b27b. However, I do think there are other scriptures that lend credence to this technique of writing. I’ll have to search for them.

My main question, as i’m processing this approach of “the 70th week is already fulfilled” is that of the two witnesses. I think Paddy brings up a good questions of the 3.5 days they are struck down. However you had a great numerical/historical/logical answer of the 95 thesis being 3.5 years. So that is helping me see it, but I need more supporting scripture for the two witnesses being the “scriptures and the saints”.

Rev 11:3 And I will grant authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth.” (how are these 1,260 days accounted for and what would be the reason for the SAME time period as the half of the 70th week but be independent of the 70th week?)
Rev 11:4 These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth. (**this lines up very well with the House of Israel divorced from God to return to “the nations” i.e. gentiles and the House of Judah — the “two sticks that will be one”**)
Rev 11:5 And if anyone would harm them, fire pours from their mouth and consumes their foes. If anyone would harm them, this is how he is doomed to be killed. (how does this line up for scripture and saints as the two witnesses?)
Rev 11:6 They have the power to shut the sky, that no rain may fall during the days of their prophesying, and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague, as often as they desire. (how does this account for the scripture and the saints as the two witnesses??)
Rev 11:7 And when they have finished their testimony, the beast that rises from the bottomless pit will make war on them and conquer them and kill them,
Rev 11:8 and their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city that symbolically is called Sodom and Egypt, where their Lord was crucified. (Is this the Jesuit’s warring against the reformation and killing them? If so, why is jerusalem included in this and what does it have to do with the reformation?)
Rev 11:9 For three and a half days some from the peoples and tribes and languages and nations will gaze at their dead bodies and refuse to let them be placed in a tomb,
Rev 11:10 and those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them and make merry and exchange presents, because these two prophets had been a torment to those who dwell on the earth. (when does this occur? it’s always made sense to me that the two witnesses are seen by the world because of modern techology, social media, live news, etc)
Rev 11:11 But after the three and a half days a breath of life from God entered them, and they stood up on their feet, and great fear fell on those who saw them.
Rev 11:12 Then they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here!” And they went up to heaven in a cloud, and their enemies watched them. (**the scriptures and the saints are carried up to heaven?? why would they “stood up on their feet” if this is not literal but figurative?)

Thank you both for your desire to learn and understand. I believe that those who read and keep the words of the Apocalypse/Revelation will be blessed. Ultimately we need to place our faith and confidence in Christ alone. His ways are above ours.

The 70th week of Daniel has nothing to do with the end times, so it’s not about the antichrist or the Two Witnesses. The 70th week of Daniel was fulfilled on time, from 27-34 AD. In the 70th week of Daniel, Messiah ratified the everlasting covenant with His blood.

  4. Dear David. I love your book 70th week decoded, but now I am more confused than ever. I summarized the whole Bible from Genesis to Revelation in an attempt to understand Revelation and must admit that I was strongly influenced by the futuristic approach on Revelation as explained by Paul Dorgan (recently deceased). What meaning, if any, does the book of Revelation then have for us if everything has already been fulfilled? Who is the antichrist (a man 666 according to Revelation) then? Where does the 7 seals, trumpets and scales then fit in? Is there such thing as the rapture? Must we ignore Revelation because we do not understand its symbolism? Please enlighten me and save me from ignorance.

    • Dear Johannes,

I understand about being confused about the fulfillment of Revelation, I used to be that way.

In Revelation 1:1 says, The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants THINGS WHICH MUST SHORTLY COME TO PASS; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John. Revelation 1:3 says Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: FOR THE TIME IS AT HAND.

Messiah’s apocalyptic vision gives the historical narrative of what the saints would face from the first century until He returns. It foretells how the Satan-empowered Roman beast kingdom fight against Messiah and His saints.

In Revelation, Messiah uses symbolism to point to literal events. The symbols are defined in the Old Testament, so they hide the message from people who haven’t studied the whole Word.

At this point, you need to see the ‘big picture’

Here’s a link to my Revelation Fulfillment Summary PDF; which shows you what’s already been fulfilled (most of it); where we’re at now on the timeline; and what will happen next as we await Messiah’s return. It will answer questions about the seals, trumpet, bowls.

To answer your question, the office of the papacy, the Popes of Rome, fulfill Bible prophecy as the ‘little horn’ of Daniel 7, the ‘son of perdition’ of 2 Thessalonians 2, and the ‘antichrist beast’ of Revelation 13, who leads the ‘harlot’ church of Rome.

The Jesuits of Rome created the false, futuristic explanations of the futuristic 70th week of Daniel, and that all of Revelation would be fulfilled during the last few years. They did this to deflect blame away from the antichrist beast Popes. He is hidden in plain sight!

  5. Greetings David,
Very good study on Daniel 9. Came across your interview on Remnant Radio as I was giving a study on this subject which I had written around 1999. I especially appreciate you connecting the the Shmitas and Jubilees which help nail down some points. My study differs on a few points you make. I’d attach my study to explain but I don’t see where that’s possible here. You can email me if you’re interested.
Thanks again for your research and service.
    Shalom

  6. Great conversations, Brothers… please keep it up!

While I’m more here to learn, I can add just a little bit to what someone was asking…

This is what I was last thinking from my recent Bible studies… and I admit, this brings me great hope and joy… I believe the 2 olive trees have biblically been Israel/Judah, and the lampstands or candlesticks have biblically been us – the saints. I now believe we will operate in the “spirits” of Moses & Elijah, with an increase in power similar to what they operated in. The reason there are also “2” lampstands is because when we go back to the beginning of Revelation, we find that Jesus was only pleased with 2 of the 7 churches.

I believe the sackcloth we wear is spiritual, signifying a solemn humility and a spirit of repentance.

When you think of olive trees, and how the oil needed to light the candlesticks comes from the olive oil of the olive trees, it symbolizes a picture of how it began with the Jews – and now we are the ones that bring the light.

Also interesting is how the Bible teaches that John the Baptist also operated in the spirit of Elijah. I feel our ministry will be one like John the Baptists’ – preparing the way for the (2nd) coming of our Lord and preaching repentance. The fire coming out of our mouths may be spiritual fire as we preach the Word.

My friends believe the reason they will want to behead us is because we will operate with such spiritual power, that they have to go through the trouble of beheading us to kill us off (just a thought).

What do you guys think? Also, have you received revelations on the “23 Shepherds that pasture 58 times” in the book of Enoch? It seems the countdown begins when Israel formed again in 1948, and in that case, it appears there are 10 more to go until the end of the Gospel Age. To give you an idea, Netanyahu has already shepherded Israel the last 11 years. That does seem like a long time to me to wait for 10 more shepherds, as like many of us, I want Jesus to come back sooner than later. : / I also don’t know if the times they “pasture” are terms or governments/ knessets, of which we are now in the 35th as of 2020, which means we also have 23 knessets to go. Again, that seems longer than I wanted to hear after doing the math. : / Any thoughts?

    • Shalom Hadassah! I’m sorry for the slow reply. I truly appreciate all of your insight! I think that the olive trees represents the Scriptures, the New and Old Testaments, which feed oil to the saints. Without the Scriptures the saints can’t shine and the world becomes very dark, such as happened during the Dark Ages when the Popes banned and burned the Scriptures.

In Revelation, Messiah addresses two church ages, Thyatira and Sardis, which are the two which had to endure the 1,260-year reign of power of the antichrist beast Popes of Rome, from 538-1798 AD.

Here is my study on the Two Witnesses. http://revelationtimelinedecoded.com/the-two-witnesses-of-revelation-11/

As you elude to, the saints are to use the Scriptures to teach the truth, to expose the deceptions of the enemy, to set the captives free.
In the last day, one saint has been brought to my attention, who did exactly what you said. He was so full of the Spirit, that they couldn’t overcome him, even by torture. So they had to behead him to stop his witness. I’m not sure if all of the description about him is true, but this article is interesting to read.

As for Zionist Israel, I see that it fulfills prophecy, but not in a good way.
I would like to talk with you, and will send you an email.

Grace, peace and love to you,
      David
